Shh! Sponsored Silence for the National Literacy Trust

On Friday 10 July 2015, schools all around the country will be taking part in a sponsored silence to raise money for the National Literacy Trust.

The challenge will be to stay as quiet as possible for 20 minutes, whilst taking part in quiet reading, colouring and craft activities themed around Chris Haughton’s picture book Shh! We Have a Plan. We think that the activities are best suited to children aged 3 to 6, but older and younger children are welcome to take part.

Every school that takes part will be entered into a prize draw to win £100 worth of Walker books for their school or library, as well as a signed, limited edition print by Chris Haughton.

If you think your child's school or library would like to be involved, all they need to do is fill in this form by Monday 15 June 2015, and we will send them a fundraising pack.

With your help we can:
Provide disadvantaged children with free books, opening up a new world of reading
  • Help parents to support their children’s literacy and language skills
  • Help disadvantaged teenagers to improve their communication skills in preparation for working life
  • Support families and adults with community projects that develop reading and writing skills

About Shh! We Have a Plan by Chris Haughton

From Chris Haughton, the award-winning author and illustrator of Oh No, George! and A Bit Lost, comes a hilarious new read-aloud picture book for children aged 3+ years. Shh! We Have a Plan is the story of four friends who spot a beautiful bird perched high in a tree. They simply MUST have it and – shh! – they have a plan. But will they be able to catch the elusive birdie?
